Building Our New Sanctuary

After 12 years of saving and waiting and worshiping in the fellowship room of our church building, we broke ground in October 2006 for our new sanctuary and began construction a month later. Construction was finished in April of 2007, and we received our permit for occupancy late in the afternoon on Good Friday. Our first worship service was held on Easter morning, April 8, at the sunrise service led by the youth of Plymouth. Our building dedication took place on April 15 with Rev. David Moyer, Conference Minister preaching. Rev. Moyer had also preached at the dedication of the other part of the building in 1995.

Following are pictures of the building process:

Looking into the new sanctuary from the fellowship room - the windows are the old outside wall of the building, facing Moholt. We kept the windows in during construction because we built during the window. Keeping the walls up between the old space and the new space let us keep the heat in the old space, as well as protected us from the vast amounts of dust produced in construction.

The old windows have been removed. Minutes later, the wall underneath the windows was removed.

A view from the cherry picker, very close to the ceiling, looking down on the sound booth. That little sliver of opening on the left hand side is the door opening made in the previous picture.

After the windows were taken out, these beautiful doors were put in their place.

Part of our dedication service was bringing all our worship symbols and furniture from the fellowship room (our previous worship space) into the new space. The youth group brings in our cross in these pictures.
